I believe there is someone else above Ben listening in on everything. We know that Ben is in his hospital bed when Jack comes to talk with Kate but even so Whitebeard reminds him of people listening. It seems as if Whitebeard is really on Jack and the Losties side now. Jack was wanting to tell Kate something more than what he did. I think Jack knows alot more about the whole situation now.

I think that Jack was scared to tell Kate that he was going "home" in the beginning... I also think that if Kate was going to try and get him to escape then he needed to make sure that she didn't say too much..

huh, well I didn't think about it that way, but you make a good point.
I thought that Tom was probably warning him about recording devices so Ben wouldn't have to be actively listening but could play it back later.

Last night showed Ben once again as the great manipulator, this was even pointed out by Alex. Tom's comment to Jack reminded me of Juliets video tape message especially the part where she said "some of us want a change" This mixed with Ben's actions and words during tonights episode made him (Ben) seem more like he was running "Jonestown" rather than an island utopia.
