Kate Austen

Kate Austen is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Kate is a fugitive, and was being pursued by Marshal Mars prior to the flight, for blowing up her father. Kate had been captured in Australia and was being escorted back to the United States before the crash. Kate has always seemed to run away from her past. Even on the Island, Kate exhibits a kind of evasive behavior to escape from her problems. Kate, when on the run, always had good intentions and never did any outright harm or killings to anybody, she believed she was doing things for the greater benefit of others. This view is prominently connected with her actions of her father's murder - she believed she was relieving her mother from his abusive presence. Kate is strong-willed, useful and clever, but dislikes being alone and is usually level-headed.

She has escaped from the captivity of the Others with Sawyer, and has formed an ambiguous romantic relationship with him, despite still being unsure about her feelings for Jack.

Default Anthony Cooper is the real "Sawyer"?

First off let me say this was a great episode and the Lost writers and producers finally delivered. First I am willing to bet Anthony Cooper, Locke’s father is the con man “Sawyer” who ruined James Ford’s life and caused him to go by the allies name “Sawyer”. Wow that guy is the real deal con man, he is like the Michael Jordan of con mans! lol
Ben said the island give you what you want most in life and James "Sawyer" Ford wants only one thing (other than Freckles). Thats going to be interesting.

I love Locke in this episode he has gone freaking crazy, I think the writers tried to make it seem as if Ben manipulated John to blow up the sub but he had those intentions before he ran into Ben and no one was going to stop him. He is the governator of the island and Ben is jealous of his connection to it LOL.

It’s good to know Ben knows a lot about the island so now we know some one can explain what the heck is going on unless he dies then that would suck. It also looks as if Jack was informed on somethings possibly by Ben or Juliet so maybe he can inform some of the others and the audience during the process.

I really wish the writers had chosen something other than Locke’s father to be the present inside the magical box which was explained in Ben’s analogy in this episode. This is way to much of a coincidence and it is starting to look as if the writers are going towards the whole Matrix concept about relative reality and what you see isn’t really their. I hope I am wrong because it’s been done before and I was hoping for something new and different.

I wondered about that back when it was made clear that Cooper was a con man and not a "rich, absent father" to Locke.

However, how would you like a "dad" who would push you out of a eighth-story window? When meeting him again after he'd tried to kill you, would you have that mild response of, "...Dad?"

And is Cooper the 'Man from Talahassee'?

Yeah I thought that was odd too.
I think it really gives incite on Locke's character, even with his dad trying to kill him and being the worst dad ever. Locke still wants a dad, he is really emotionally messed up with daddy.

Indeed he is, and this is not going to be fun for him.

I was made to believe that the 'Man from Talahassee' was Locke's dad.

I think Cooper is the original conman "Sawyer" who destroyed James Ford's family. Our "Sawyer" is not on the same conman level as this monster, cause he actually has a heart beneath all the bull....which is his weakness. This connection will be brought out at some point, but maybe not season 3. At first I thought Ben was referring to Jack when he spoke of the man from talahassee, but now I am pretty sure it was Cooper. Very interesting turn of events......

I also believed that Cooper is the man from Talahassee. Doesn't James Ford have ties to Talahassee too... Maybe I'm remembering wrong though..

Ooh I had a thought. Remember in Sawyer's first flashback I believe, when the guy is in his hotel room and he says somthing like, "It will make us even for the Tampa job, and Sawyer says"Now what could possibly make us even for the Tampa job?"

They never told us why the Tampa job was such a pain did they? Con gone wrong...maybe because someone else was conning there too? I don't know I'm desperate! (:
