So far I have counted four distinct lists and the fifth which may or may not be the same as one of the others.

List 1: Goodwins list of the tailies. He was not given the list at first rather he was to make one. I think he was supposed to find out the name of all of the survivors and make a list and send it back to Ben. Then, a list of 9 who were to be taken was made from Goodwins list.

List 2: Ethans List of the Midsection. He was supposed to create the same type of list Goodwin did. However he was caught in his lie by Hurley panicked and took Claire. So really it seems he did not complete the list from that section. So we really cannot be sure who would have been on the list of ones to be taken.

List 3: Miss Klugh's List given to Michael: This list had a very practical purpose. It had the names of Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley. Jack was needed for his surgical skills. Kate & Sawyer were pawns used to control each other and manipulate Jack. Hurley was a messenger used to send back misinformation.

List 4: Jacob's list. We know that Jack is not on that list because it was specifically said that "Shepard isn't even on Jacobs list" Other than that we do not know for certain who else is or isn't on it. We also do not know the purpose of that list.

List 5: Mikhail's list: Not actually his list but he referred to a list. Mikhail never actually said "Jacob's list" but refferred to the list's creator as a "magnificant man" and "he". We know that Kate and Sayid are not on that list because they are flawed. It could be the same list as Jacob's but not a certainty yet.

Any lists I am missing? Are there any concrete proofs that the list Mikhail mentions is also Jacobs?

Frogmeister, I wrote out the different lists in another post earlier! Great minds think alike. I think I had:
1: Ethan and Goodwin's lists that they were to give to Ben in three days.
2. Hurley's list of passengers, then he got the manifest and discovered Ethan wasn't on the list.
3. Bea's list for Michael to get Walt back that had Jack Shepherd, Kate Austin, James Ford, and Hugo Reyes on it. (Bea knew who these people were but Michael didn't know who James Ford was. AND Bea only ever called Hurley Hugo, she never said Hurley.)
4. Jacob's list
5. Mikhail's list (Jacob's list?)
Somebody somewhere likes to keep track of things and is organized. It gives me the creeps, I think of the Nazis and all their record keeping ,or in Iraq when the U.S. found thousands of record cards of Iraqi men who were "dissappeared".

Goodwin was to report back with the list of people in three days. However, the kids were taken and people were killed THAT NIGHT...

So that doesn't completely makes sense with me. It's this and other reasons that makes me believe there are other people on the island.


These two are probably the same, although we can't be too sure just yet.

Yes, Goodwin was instructed to make a list within three days. So, the people being snatched that night seems premature. It is probable that more than one group exists on the Island and are at war or competing to gain control of the castaways. We know that there was a dispute between Dharma and Hostiles. So maybe there are still some Dharmas around recruiting themselves some new members? Or maybe there were two distinct groups of hostiles that lived on the Island when Dharma arrived and they were caught in the same situation .....being snatched up or recruited against their will.

More likely is that Goodwin got news of these children back quickly, and because of how important they were deemed, they were sent to be taken very quickly.

This is a good list of lists though. I think the MASTER LIST or Jacob's List is essentailly a list of all the people who can be recruited, brainwashed, like Cindy. People like Locke and Kate are flawed so they aren't on the list and can't be brainwashed. But the list is NOT definitive, it's not black and white, because Goodwin argued that Anna Lucia should be put on the list, and while Jack wasn't on the list he has still been brainwashed.

i think soon we will learn more about the lists and who makes them and why..

I was wondering about "the whispers" actually. What happened to them? They were really cool, made the Others seem dead mysterious and powerful. The Others we've seen CAN'T be the same Others who were sneaking around the jungle whsipering ..

I saw a interview with damon linderlof and he said that there are 6 type of others. So maybe the one ben is in is one. The ones that do the whipers could be another and the ones that take people could be a third.
