Maybe the fact that he was not on the list makes him one of the good ones... Those on the list are flawed..

I always thought he meant Sawyer in that scene, not Jack.


I guess we don't know exactly if being on the list makes you bad or good.

Yes that is it. When Henry was in the Armory he clearly stated Locke was one of the good ones, and Locke was not on the list. But why would Jack or Hurley be on the list. Kate:Criminal. Sawyer:Con Man.
With Jack though it doesn't make sense.

Jack is not on Jacobs List but he was on Bea Klugh's List.. Locke is one of the good ones.. and we don't know if he is on any list..

What one man views as flawed, may not be in another mans view. Everyone is flawed in a sense. It seems to me the ones that were not on the list all have a strong sense of self. They do not easily conform. They question authority, they rebel when pushed in a corner. If you are trying to create some type of eutopian society where everyone jumps through the hoops when you tell them.......then our losties are definitely "flawed".

Klughs list had a very specific purpose......to bring Jack to them and have him save Ben. Sawyer and Kate were only on that list because they would be used to manipulate Jack. Hurley was only a messenger boy that would take back misinformation. So, to me that list had a purpose and now it is irrelevant.

Jacobs list however is another story. I wonder if his list remains solid as initially written, or if some names are added to it or removed based on their actions. Good point about him referring to Locke as one of the "good" ones. Goodwin also said the same type of thing to Ana Lucia right before she killed him.

"The Others" all have one thing in common, they continuously lie. Why should they think "Patchy" is different? He claimed that the security system no longer works and when they first met him, he lied about who he was and how he was connected to "The Others".

The fact is that they are all flawed. Sawyer is one of the most despicable people on the island, yet he was on the list. So if they are talking about a character flaw then Patchy was clearly lying.

Perhaps he was referring to a physical or emotional flaw. But if that's the case then Kate wouldn't be on the list either since she was never in control of her own life.

It makes sense that he would know all of their names as well as their bios. He was the communications guy (before the sky turned purple). They could have gotten the flight manifest as well as complete histories on everyone aboard the plane from their contacts in the outside world. He would have been the first person to see all of that information. Don't forget, they had months to track that information down before the communications got knocked out.

I think all of the hostile/dharma/others are mind readers. That would explain so much! I can't remember if my best friend's birthday is march 14th or 15th but these guys remember every detail of our losties lives and stats? do they have pop quizzes every day, study groups? And we don't know that Locke is 'one of the good ones'. Ben was being held captive, he may have fibbed. I know, it sounds so unlike him...

Perhaps attention to detail is one of the character traits the Others prize--that, and a certain ruthlessness when committed to a cause or action.

Good or bad, for the group, does not have to conform to the general definitions of good or bad. What's "good" for the group might seem "bad" to an individual who values his or her personal freedom of action; or the freedom to choose their own course of action.
