Mr. Eko

Eko, also known as Mr. Eko or Father Tunde, was one of the tail section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. He was a notorious war lord and drug smuggler in Nigeria before his brother Yemi's death. To get out of his country he hastily became a priest, but after Yemi's death, he seemed to take his role more seriously. Eko survived on the Island for 72 days before he was killed by the Monster.

Arrow Locke

Well of the 3 hatches John Locke has been in 2 have blown up or imploded... Destroyed either way... Does this seem odd to anyone else? He is the one who "believes" in the island.. He puts faith into the fact there is something great about the island.. But everytime he is in a hatch with a computer he manages to destroy any chance of learning or using the station... That just stood out to me that one again Locke feels he is doing the right thing or following his hunches and ends badly twice..

I think this is an important thing to take note of. John Locke is easily manipulated. His father manipulated him over and over again. He joined a cultlike commune and was easily manipulated into protecting them and thinking of them like family. He was used by the undercover agent to infiltrate the group because his file indicated he would be easy to manipulate. He was manipulated to keep typing in the numbers because he thought it would save the world....yet Ben planted the seed of doubt that caused him to stop entering the numbers. Now, co-ordinates on a scripture stick and a chess game
later he destroys the second hatch. Just like the pawns in a chess game, Locke can be used for good or bad.......

Technically...Locke didnt 'blow' up the Flame, because he didnt actually know the repercussions of Enter 77.

He was prompted by a chess computer to enter a command in the event that hostiles were in there, but didnt know what the result was going to be. In fact Id say it was detonated remotely, because if kaboom was imminent the computer should have said something like:

'Get your arse out of here...NOW"...but there was no urgency to his departure. Says to me, someone else detonated it; someone watching on that cctv camera...

Just the same, Id say Locke's computer previledges should be revisited.

Technically, a tool does not need to understand its purpose to be useful and effective. Locke would never have knowingly destroyed the hatches, but unwittingly he has been manipulated to do just that. Locke played the game and then decided to enter the numbers even though he did not know what exactly would happen when he did. That is risky. He did not even ask his other companions what they thought about the prompts the computer was offering. If he had, they might have told him the place was wired with C4 and not to mess with anything. That is just the kind of guy you want at the computer to set off a booby trap.

Frogmeister I agree with you about Locke... He routinely takes chances and does not feel it important to discuss what is going on with anyone else... He a lot of time acts on impluse...

Unhatched I didn't think about the fact that it could have been blown up by remote.. A possibility... I do find it kinda strange that it didn't blow up until everyone was out of it... If one of the others was watching, why not blow it up when they saw the losties took over Mrs Klugh & Patchy.. We already know that both are willing to die.. Wouldn't it have been more effective? I really doubt that if it were remote that they would not care if they killed the losties or their own..

Wow Froggy, that was almost Zen. I like it!
I think of Locke as a multi-layered guy, but he is easy to manipulate because he wants not only to be needed and wanted but, to prove himself as smart and able. He needs it. His past is full of times when he felt underestimated, tricked and out-smarted. The fact that he was told the chess game had not been won in years, would have been like a drug to him. "Don't tell me what I can and can not do." - Locke.
Then the game was calling to him, like a challenge. His eyes lite up when he won like a kid in a candy store. The prize was the chance to push more buttons. Maybe he can do it right this time. Maybe he's back on the right track.
I don't think he ment to blow up the Flame. I think he thought he had just outsmarted the others. Entering 77 was like calling in additional troops for the war.
Maybe the other's set up the explosives just incase someone did take the Flame back.

It was obvious from lloks exchanged that sayid is about fed up with his behavior. I wonder if there is some dissention between them. Is it possible that Locke is a puppet and who ever holds the strings can manipulate him in any way they see fit. Not that he has been comprimised by the others, but a greater power is controlling him?

Locke's problem is faith, he believes it will guide him in the right direction all the time. Sayid knows that now and will probably be more careful as to what Locke is up to. If you remember, Jack in the cage 2 weeks ago, he pressed teh food button twice, it sounded an alarm, he got the hint. Sawyer was to thick to understand, but Locke would probably push away knowing the island would take care of him, then bounce his bald dome off the bars. Faith can be very dangerous when you lay all of yours in the wrong hands.

So i'm guessing, every hatch he goes too, something bad happens, is it a good thing? possibly. But flame hatch contacts with the mainland communication thing was useless since the comms went down in ltda. So maybe destroying all hatches, the shield goes down completely.

Cable Runner, I for one would like to see Locke get his "bald dome" get knocked off the bars, or anything hard. It might knock some sense into him.
Who still thinks Locke would have made a better leader then Jack?
