I think we do have to assume that someone was in the swan at all times because we now know what happens when the button is not pushed! I have not fully made up my mind about whether Kelvin was DI or not... I do think he could have just as easily been put in that hatch by the others to watch/gaurd it like Patchy was at the Flame.. I think that most times the others know if someone/ something new arrives on the island... Kelvin was told to bring Desmond in and convince him to push the button, then when Kelvin was trying to take the boat he was bringing it to the others... but Desmond ended up killing him..

The others I don't think could control the button from any other location either because really would they have wanted the hatch to implode?

Besides lieing to him about the outside air being contaminated I gotta think that Kelvin was telling the truth to Desmond. Otherwise it is a lot of effort and hassle to go through for someone (desmond) who just washed up on the island. Kelvin believed in pushing the button enough to try to set Desmond up as his replacement.

i dont know whos side kelvin was on, but we will learn more i think from a desmond flashback

About this form the purge, the people at lost said that this is a very important event

It could have even been that Razinski was DI and Kelvin killed him durning the purge.. Then had to figure out what to do with Desmond when he crashed on the island and well he can't get into any trouble if we keep him in the swan hatch and tell him he can not go outside or leave until his relief comes... That would have kept Desmond busy and out of the way! (sorry Tessa, I know you never think Desmond is in the way... LOL)

however in the lockdown the picture which has the picture of the hatchs. I heard that Razinski done that and also made cuts in the ordientions. So maybe razinski was di and kelvin was a other and Razinski so hiding stuff from him so he cannot find out a serect about di. Then the losties can find the serect about di and put a end to the others

I like where your going with this.. Could the reason Kelvin was adding to the blastdoor map be that he was changing what Razinski already had on there...

Ah yes, I forgot about the button. Duh. So Kelvin was probably happy as a clam to see Desmond wash up! Convince him to stay put and push the button and then Kelvin could go back to the barracks and book club meetings and not have to have that duty.

I read that the official Lost podcast has confirmed that the Others had very little knowledge of the Swan hatch, which implies Kelvin was not an Other, and it also could mean that the Others don't know much, if anything, about Desmond. Hope this clears some things up.

yeah that makes sense, cause when Ben finally got a chance to look around the Swan station after his capture he was very interested and curious about what was going on. At first I thought it was just part of his deception. Since he was pretending to be Henry Gale and Gale wouldn't know anything about the Swan. But look back Ben was actually curious because he didn't really know about the Swan himself.

One thing though I assume Ben did know about the Pearl station and there was a monitor with a camera feed showing the Swan. So you would think he would know somthing about the Swan.

I've been rewatching season two and Kelvin Inman tells desmond that he joined the Dharma Initiative, so I don't think he was an Other. I also think that there was someone in the Pearl station (someone who smoked because weren't there snuffed out cigs on the table) watching our losties. Also - when Kelvin was drunk and under the hatch where the fail safe key slot was, desmond asks him what it does and Kelvin says "electromagnatism. There was an incident, a leak, and now static electricity builds up and it has to be discharged every..." (not verbatim) My point is I had forgotten about this conversation, now maybe I think the purge and the incident are two separate things.
