The braodening of the lines here would represent a flatening out of the landscape. This flat area is surrounded by narrower lines, meaning shorter distances between large elevation changes. Meaning that the "c" is surrounded by mountains. Knowing what we've seen in the season 3 premire that "Othertown" is in a crater, that is where the map leads to.
Also remember those wavy lines on the blast door map, that we all thought were either rivers or underground tunnels? Could that be what we are seeing here in Sawyer's map. These lines are much bolder than the topography lines, so it could be emphisising the road or actually be underground.

Wow I had forgotten how to ready a topographic map... Right out of HS I worked as a secetary for a land surveying company.. I used to copy the maps and the "drafters" were starting to teach me to read the maps ... Great find... Thanks
