Bernard Nadler
Bernard Nadler is a tail section survivor of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815 and the husband of Rose. He is the only tail section survivor that has not been killed, captured, or assimilated in to the Others. He wasn't seated in the tail section, and was only there when the plane crashed because he was using the bathroom then. Bernard cares very much for Rose and feels a need to fix things, like her cancer, not dissimilar to Jack.

The switchbacks would be used in serious inclines or declines. So this hatch must be high up the mountain centr of the island. and/or over a mountain rigde and then down into a thier secluded crater like area.
So we are on the right trail folks!!!

Okay, what do you guys think about this... following what Benmer said about being in the mountains... the song that was playing in the VWbus (Shambala) in (according to wikipedia) Tibetan Buddhist tradition is a mystical kingdon somewhere beyond the snowpeaks of the Himalayas... and shambhala is a sanskrit term meaning "place of peace/tranquility/happiness." Shambhala is believed to be a society where all the inhabitants are enlightened, actually a Buddhist "pure land"... the idea of shambhala is said to have an "outer", inner" and "alternative" meaning" Outer meaning understands Shambhala to exist as a physical place,.....the inner represents in terms of one's own body and mind, and the alternative the meditation practice.

I think this is how they find the flame in Enter 77
|
Nope. Sayid, Locke, Kate, and Danielle are already on their way to the Flame, presumably because Danielle "knows the Island" and because the map is still sitting in the back of the hippie van.
I do think it will come into play after they come back from this latest adventure/rescue operation, when they have found out that the Others are on the other side of the Island in their commune. Someone near Sawyer mentions there must be a way to get to the other side without a boat, and he goes "hold on a sec there, Freckles..."

Frank: It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.
Jane: Goodyear?
Frank: No, the worst.

I think I'll throw in something from left field. Remember the diagram painted on the blast door of the Hatch? The one with the question mark in the center? If the Hatch was at the bottom of the map and North was up, then the station in the center, which was represented by a question mark, would be up to the north, in the mountains.
And remember Eko's vision where he was supposed to ask Locke to take him to the question mark? At the time, I thought that meant the central station on the Hatch diagram, but Locke assumed that Eko meant the Pearl Station (the one where Eko ended up getting killed).
Also, I took the roadmap to be a kind of foreshadowing device to remind the viewers that the Dharma Project appeared to have started out as a large, grand, enterprise. Here they are, maybe building monuments, roads, zoos on the other island, the housing project where the book club was meeting, but then something happened, the construction was stopped, the roads stopped being maintained, and everything was left to fall apart, rust, and decay. Perhaps that bit was put in there to get us wondering again about what happened to stop the Dharma Initiative.
And now, according to the preview, they're going to find the station with the computers and maybe communicate with the mainland. Maybe a third faction (with the guy with the eye patch) controls this communications station. Perhaps the Dharma Initiative degenerated into a bunch of warring factions after the "incident." A kind of mutiny, which left Hanso's group only controlling the Swan Station (Hatch), and air-dropping supplies to the Swan Station to keep it going.
You might also note the comments of the other losties about the supplies running low. That could also be a bit of foreshadowing.
Just something to think about (if you want to think about Lost in terms of a book or novel).
