the glass house metaphor

So in the begining ... tom asks jack if he wants stones for the glass house he is living in. I think this is the beginnig of the con. they want hm to stop asking questions and stop taking control of situations. cuz he is so good at seeing through thier BS...

Thus begins the next con... I think they are scare tactics becuase they have underestimated jack repeatedly. hence the need to get someone in close with him... aka juliet. but jack probably already sees that and is in a sense taking juliet as collateral for his protection down the road.

when jack "throws stones" so to speak on the island with Bai Ling, he gets beat up eventually. Bai Ling obviously told her brother what happend. maybe the house fell down around him, but she was acting shady for a number of days/weeks coming and going and keeping secrets that eluded to her being a prostitute.

but she was right in that he is a Leader. OUR LEADER!

why was archara so scared when jack kept pushing her to do the tattoo? Was it the fact it carries some kind of stigma, and if it does what is that stigma?

Well. she has more episodes to appear in so we may find out. I know that when i traveled to Thailand. the culture there is very different. So a woman might not be able to keep something from her brother/ family. Lies might get her disowned. Or even worse. maybe they take her gift away. Its possible she was give it, hence the name "gift"

I was figuring it was kinda like Claire and the psychic dude, he just knew something about her and was rather afraid. There were a few other characters who went through this as well.

Possibly the stones metaphor is relatively simple. He knows Jack believes that they (the others) have committed bad acts against the losties. Whereas Tom believes the losties have committed more violence against them. Ethan, Goodwin, the chick that Sun shot on the boat. From his warped view, he may consider his group the misunderstood ones that have been wronged by the losties.

So the saying is "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." So Frogmeister you are saying Tom actually thinks the Others and the Losties are BOTH the ones living in glass houses and that they both should stop the stone-throwing? (Don't forget that Mr. Eko killed two people in the jungle on the Tailies' first night with that list of Ethan, Goodwin, Boat-chick...)

Very true. It seems to me that they are all brainwashed that way. To play the victims. Poor me. whether they chose to come to the island or not. thats where they are... " poor others.." and now with our losties crashing there. Poor them again and they dont have thier island to themselves for thier lame projects anymore... Poor danny for being an irrational baffoon... poor everyone... it seems.

I dont have any pity for them. And i can see how they might be like that. and yes. Jack doesnt feel sorry for himself. He doesnt ask for pity. He takes control of his life.

Well, he takes control after he counts to five.... which interestingly is the number that is tattooed on his arm. Jack is finally getting in the game and I love it. I never thought about the skulking about that the Others might be doing.... well, Juliet always gives us those on-the-verge-of-tears-eyes.... I guess you might skulk about if that Isabelle lady is on the prowl looking to execute anyone she can.

I bet all her children ran away from her and she is a bitter spiteful old woman now.

and she tries to keep the wndows in her glas house clean and such. so she uses windex on them, but shes actually hurting the plants ... in the long run.

aka. losing control of her people and the brainwashed ideas they are all operating under.

She tells Jack that it is against her customs to read him and mark him... He then gets rough with her and makes her do it... She did flat out tell him that she could not do it or there would be reprcussions
