Dr. Jack Shephard
Dr. Jack Shephard is often seen as the main character of the series. He is a spinal surgeon and the de facto leader of the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Jack has control issues and trouble dealing with situations that he cannot fix. However, this attitude of solving problems through reason has given him the ability to function well in crisis. Sometimes, if he feels guilt or pain over a situation he can't fix himself, he will do anything he can to fix it, even borderlining on obsessive. Jack is, most of the time, in control of his life, emotions and situation he is in and is able to keep a cool head in tense situations. Jack is also the half brother of Claire Littleton, although neither of them is aware of this. Jack has formed very strong bonds with Kate and Juliet while he has been on the Island.

Hi. I'm a newbie to the site. I have been watching Lost for a few months, and I've watched nearly all the episodes more than once. This is one of my favorites--I think I've watched it four times--I watched it last night. Bear with me. It seems that Desmond has the ability to flash forward and backwards. Remember when he was sitting at the bar and he told the bartender, "I think I've just made the worst mistake of my life, but the terrible thing is, I think I've done it twice." So, if he has broken Penny's heart twice now (in his time travels), what does that mean? Is it possible that Desmond will have a chance to do it again, but the next time, would he go ahead and ask her to marry him, and not got to the island and push the button? Of course, Mrs. Hawkings says that the universe will course correct, and he will eventually have to go to the island and push the button, or "we all die" she says. The monk in "Catch 22" has the same abilities as Mrs. Hawkings. They are working together to make sure that Desmond pushes the button. Since they are working together, is it possible that there are others to help Desmond stay on course? And what about the failsafe key? Desmond's life flashed before his eyes--I guess that he had a near death experience. Plus, he and John both woke up in the jungle--Desmond was naked. Does the whole future of the island and the world revolve around the choices that Desmond makes? This is challenging to say the least.
