Shannon Rutherford

Shannon Rutherford was a middle section survivor of Oceanic Flight 815 and was Boone's stepsister, who she frequently argued with. She was very selfish at times, though she eventually formed a romantic relationship with Sayid. Shannon survived on the Island for 48 days before she was unintentionally shot and killed by Ana-Lucia Cortez.

Title: Flashes Before Your Eyes

Flashback: Desmond

Synopsis:
A suspicious and determined Hurley enlists Charlie to help him wrangle the truth out of Desmond, who has been acting strangely ever since the implosion of the hatch. Guest starring are Sonya Walger as Penny Widmore, Alan Dale as Charles Widmore, Shishir Kurup as Donovan, Fionnula Flanagan as Ms. Hawking, Katie Doyle as receptionist, Jeremy Colvin as delivery man, Michael Titterton as bartender and David Cordell as Jimmy Lennon.

SPOILERS
Spoiler for 3x08 - Flashes Before Your Eyes:
Back on the beach, the Oceanic 815-ers will finally be dealing with the aftereffects of Desmond turning the fail-safe key, which imploded the hatch and lit the sky purple. In episode 8, the lovelorn Scottish soldier — new and improved with precognitive abilities! — informs a central character that he or she will die; he is also the subject of a flashback device employed "in a way we never have before and never will again," hints Lindelof. "It'll either blow people's minds or chase them away for good.

Charlie and Hurley try to work out what happened to Desmond after the hatch explosion. We learn more about Desmond’s past focusing on his life before recruitment into the army. Will we finally get a better understanding of what the Others are up to?

Don't have a lot of time, gotta run off to night school, however this episode ranks as one of my favorites ever. It's unusual to have one that is

I have a lot more understanding for Des now, and although some questions are answered, a few new ones have arrived too.

Biggest question:

how did the old woman know all those details? Did she go through a similar experience to Des?

She was his mind... so him lying on the ground in the forrest unconcious for a while ws what was actually happeiong while he was in his head arguing with the jewewrly lady, his physicist friend and Penny and ESPECIALLY himself....


I think the most interesting part of it all was this. Lindelof describes the des flashback as the following:

"in a way we never have before and never will again" Meaning that this type of flashback was unique. BUT HE DOES describe it as a flashback not time travel.

It reminds me of those dreams we all wish we could have more often. YOU know the ones i am talking about. The ones where you are in control of the dream as opposed to watching it or it happening.

Desmond did say to Charlie that what happened is his life flashed before his eyes... That he can not control Fate and that is why Charlie is going to die..
