Bernard Nadler

Bernard Nadler is a tail section survivor of the crash of Oceanic Flight 815 and the husband of Rose. He is the only tail section survivor that has not been killed, captured, or assimilated in to the Others. He wasn't seated in the tail section, and was only there when the plane crashed because he was using the bathroom then. Bernard cares very much for Rose and feels a need to fix things, like her cancer, not dissimilar to Jack.

Default Edmund Burke - philosopher

Maybe I've missed this, but I haven't found it on this site, yet.
Did anyone notice that Juliet's husband has the name of another philosopher. Edmund Burke was an 18th Century British philosopher & statesman. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edmund_Burke)

If that has been discussed already, I apologize.
I'm new here, but I couldn't find it.

How many philosopher references does that make?
Rousseau, Locke, Hume, Burke? more?

It seems as if he died of old age. The real guy that is.

That's really funny.

According to bigeye.com, he died from stomach cancer... which I hear is pretty nasty (especially considering 18th medicine). He'd probably have been better off being hit by a bus.

Ouch, so he was depressed about his son dying, and he had stomach cancer. Poor guy.

Funny thing is that there is no significant resemblance between the lives or thoughts of these philosophers AND the characters given their names in the show. Now I've seen on some other forums Lost-fans looking into possible similarities between Mr. Locke and Locke, Rousseau and the Romantic thinker Rousseau, Echo, probably with Meister Eckhardt and all- but to my knowledge regarding these philosophers, all these are far-fetched and often misleading assumptions... I think there's more subtlety to these philosopher names than a simple pairing based on any level of likeness.
