That scene with Karl in the room, strapped to the chair was wicked! It did look like Sawyer was getting kinda hypnotized by it too. And I do agree that it could be the "room" that Walt didn't want to go back to. It would make sense. R.I.P. Danny at least he's with his woman now......

I think Jenmarie meant that Danny was the one who said "he wasn't on Jacob's list". I think he was too.

That whole room scene kind of reminded me of Clockwork Orange.

Just a stream of thought. The room was most definitely like a Clockwork Orange. In fact, I thought of that immediately. As this would be a form of brainwashing to try to conform people/deviants to certain societal (is that a word?) ideals, perhaps the others are trying to live in the Utopia that the Hanso Foundation wants(ed) to achieve. Another reason to only take the children as they can be molded much more easily into a belief system. Old Smokey could be another tool created to conform people to certain standards, being able to "see" into people's minds, determine their potential for "change". Ole Smokey didn't kill Mr. Eko at first because he seemed remorseful about his violent past. But as soon as he was able to shed his guilt, blam-o he is now a free thinker and a threat.
Which brings up religion and how that is woven into everything. Religion can be a controlling tool as well. For some the fear of "God's" wrath/punishment will motivate people to do things that are not natural to them as humans....blah blah blah

Indeed, that's who I meant.

Yeah i dont like that smoke monster, he makes the island seem less realistic... i mean the whole thing is pretty far fetched, but if you think about it, all this could actually happen, but the smoke monster makes it seem fantasy now, and its a little dissipointing.

Me, well, I'm a man of faith. Do you really think all this...is an accident? That we, a group of strangers survived, many of us with just superficial injuries? Do you think we crashed on this place by coincidence, especially this place? We were brought here for a purpose, for a reason, all of us. Each one of us was brought here for a reason.

The smoke monster could be something more realistic and possible. The first thing i thought of when i saw it was nanoparticles, those little tiny machines that aren't a threat alone but once they get into a group, watch out. Maybe that was part of the Dahrma experiment somehow... or maybe a part of the experiment gone wrong...

I read somewhere that people believe that the creation of self-replicating nanobots will result in the destruction and eventual extinction of humanity. But despite a fear of this, people are still trying to develop the technology. I'm not sure where the theory came from, but it's relatively well known. It's called the "gray goo" or something along those lines. Maybe the smoke monster is a bunch of these nanobots with artificial intelligence.
