Jack's message to Kate

'Hi, my name is Herman, and I'm a LOSTaholic' (too!). OK, now for my question. What was the deal with Jack's message to Kate at the end of the episode? Why did he want her to repeat the story he told her on the day they crashed? (I'm assuming it's the story about being afraid after cutting a patient, counting to five, letting his fear have its moment, then sewing her back up.) Why that story, instead of 'I'm free!' or something? Just wondering what you guys think is the significance of his earlier story. Thanks!

It's something only the two of them know about. That way in an hour if she is forced talk to Jack at gun point or is not safe she can tell a B.S. story to let him know she is NOT okay. I think he also used it to remind her to be brave, count to five and take action even if she's scared. I thought it was prettty smart on Jack's part.

I agree with Dragonfly... Its something only the two of them know about.... Can't wait to see if Jacks plan works =)

I have no idea how to follow a post like the one above, but I'll try,
Herman. First of all, we're glad you joined this board. I can only hope the above post is a joke.
I also agree that Jack needed a story that only he and Kate would
know about - my husband and I have actually talked about having
a code if one of is really in trouble.

I don't know if it's a joke from Integrated, but they've said it on other threads. I think Jack's plan was brilliant! I'mg glad to see Jack, Kate, and Sawyer gettng the upper hand in the situation FINALLY (hopefully!) this season!

yeah , all true , but where can Kate (and Sawyer ?) go ? If it is true that they are on another island , (Jack doesn't know this yet ) what good is his plan ? unless she can swim to the other island if she sees it .. or hide somewhere ? maybe there is a group of unhappy others that will help hide her (them) or something ..... ps .. was that a joke above or not , enquiring minds want to know .

Yeah, that 'code' theory makes sense - something only Jack and Kate know about, so Jack can tell if she's really safe. Too bad Kate (apparently, at least) has nowhere to run. Anxious to see how this plays out!

It frustrated me because Kate could've said, "We're on another island!"..instead of saying "I can't" repeatedly.

Also, this island they are on is supposed to be very small. If and when Kate finds a safe place, and then communicates this to Jack, and he goes along with fixing Ben (if this is his plan), she might not be safe for very long....They could just track her and probably reach her in a short matter of time, unless Jack tells them they are not to go after her.

Btw, is it just Kate going, or Kate and Sawyer? I don't see why Jack would leave Sawyer out of it.
