Paulo

Paulo was one of the middle section survivors of Flight 815. Before the crash, he and Nikki Fernandez murdered Howard L. Zukerman and stole his diamonds. They spent most of their time on the island searching for these diamonds to the exclusion of almost everything else. A bite from a Medusa spider induced a death-like paralysis in Paulo. He subsequently died as a result of being buried alive while paralized.

Lightbulb Desmond knew how to communicate hatch to hatch

When Locke and Desmond said they were going to the Pearl to communicate with another hatch, it made me think. As far as I know, Locke didn't know that you could use to computers in the hatch to talk to other people in other hatches, so does that mean Desmond did?

Watching last night, I was wondering if maybe during the time that Desmond was down in the Swan, that he used the computer to speak to someone in another hatch.

OR when Desmond was going through the print out from the Pearl, did he see Michael's conversation with Walt on there??

Desmond was in that hole a long time. If he didn't know they were able to communicate, he would be stupid. Wouldn't you screw around on the computer if you were locked in hole in the ground and had listened to the same 20 albums over and over and over again? I would.

The orientation film said the computer was not to be used for comunication. I don't think they would have said that if it were not posible to do just that. And if someone said not to do it, I would be very tempted to try. That's just me. I'm bad that way.

I'm going to have to go with Dragonfly on this one... If I were stuck in a hole and they told me not to do something like commucate with anyone over the computer it just might be one of the first things I would do.. But you would think that Sayid would have figured out if they could with his radio he made?

But guys, think on the flip side of that. If i was down in that hole for that long, i would just let the computer go to zero and see what happens. I mean who cares right

I've also thought about that, and yes I also probaby would have let it go to zero also... I just think I would have to work up more courage to not push the button than to communicate with someone else... Got to remember most of them want off the island... Michael wanted to talk to Walt more than he cared what would happen if someone knew or found out he was using the computer to communticate

Well Desmond kind of did do this... and thats why the plane crashed.

as for him knowing about communicating... maybe so maybe not. He was shooting himself with drugs for those days he was alone with the button. who knows what else hey did besides keep you awake. maybe they helped your delusions and kept you paranoid and pushing the button.

He is now equiped with some sort of clarvoyance... so maybe that would account for the Hatch communicating comment.

I thought that was stated on the piece of film that was found in The Arrow? Eko found that and Locke spliced it with the rest of the Orientation film.

Desmond acknowledged that there were missing parts, so I don't think he could have known that the Dharma Initiative didn't want the computer to be used for communication.

If that was the case, I think he may have attempted to communicate and possibly succeeded (though there is also the chance that he didn't think that the computer had any other working function other than allowing entry of the code).

That's an interesting thought, I like that idea.

Who took the film strips and hid them in the Arrow, and why?

According to Kelvin Inman in Live Together, Die Alone, his former partner Radzinski "made some edits" to the film.
Since he states this in direct response to Desmond's question "Why are there missing parts?", it is very probable that by edits Inman meant omissions.

It is very likely that the piece of film that was found in The Arrow by Mr. Eko was removed from the original by Radzinski, though how that piece of film found its way to The Arrow remains unclear.

It is possible that Radzinski traveled to The Arrow when he explored the Island (which he must have done, since he was the one who began the Blast Door Map of the Island)
