Rose Nadler
Rose Nadler (née Henderson) is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. She was on the plane with her husband Bernard, but was separated for 48 days following the crash. Rose is a well-meaning, caring woman who was supposedly healed from her fatal illness after arriving on the island, similar to Locke.

I stated in my comment in the thread "Colleeen's Funeral" that there may be a connection between Merlin an dthe Smoke Monster. I stated that the show may be the conflict between paganism and Christianity. I just have been thinking about smoke in its connection to Christianity. White smoke is always a positive; black smoke is always a negative. Consider: white smoke of incense, white smoke in the election of the Pope, etc.; Black smoke of Hell.
Locke faced down the Smoke Monster and survived. To this point, we have no evidence that Locke has committed an act that requires contrition. However, Ecko had committed many such acts. When confronted with them, he refused to confess as required by revealed religion (Christianity). Instead he defended himself by relying on the precepts of natural religion: I had no choice, I did the best I could.
He did not talk to the apparition as to a priest (a man representative of revealed religion) but as to Yemi (a man with natural connections, a human brother). Therefore, the Smoke Monster executed judgement upon Ecko.
His dying words show Ecko's final understanding. Everyone must make this ultimate decision: You're next.

I truly believe that Smokey could have been appearing as Walt when Shannon saw him in the jungle. The reasons:
- Smokey can apparently take on any form he wants (Yemi, Dave, Christian, black horse) regardless whether that individual or thing exists on the Island.
- Smokey's main reason for taking other forms was to accomplish objectives - Christian, to guide Jack to the coffin/cave, Yemi to lead Eko to The Pearl and to help Locke get his faith back, Dave to lead Hurley to a cliff to jump off (still not entirely sure why), black horse to comfort Kate?
Walt's appearances seemed to be to work Shannon into mental distress, and at the end to warn her that she was about to be killed. I think just because we assume Walt has some incredible powers does not mean he does. Why would the Others just let him go with Michael if he was really that powerful? The producers love to throw us red herrings!

Frank: It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.
Jane: Goodyear?
Frank: No, the worst.

Well, i personally don't think that "Smokey" is any form of shape shifter. I know i tend to disagree with many opinions people give concerning this show...guess its just what i do...like to offer other views to largely accepted theories/ideas.
COULD Smokey be some sort of shape shifter? Yes
However, i think there is something far greater happening than Smokey just taking the shape of other people. One of the largest LOST mysteries which i am still wondering about (but which others have seemed to completley forget about) is the whispers and voices people heard in the jungle during season 1. I can't remember exact episode numbers, but i know more than one person experienced these. Ever since season one, my theory has been that there are the "Others" and there is Dharma...two seperate groups. (i forget his name) But when Desmond first got into the hatch, his partner told him to be careful of the "hostiles". I don't think he was refering to Dharma in this case. I think he was refering to whatever made the whispers, and possible made things appear (other figures of people maybe?)
I'm getting way into theory here, so i'll slow down. All i'm saying is i can't accept that Smokey has taken on these shapes quite yet. I think there is not enough evidence to support such a claim. It would prove an interesting addition to the show, but i'm still hesitant.
