That would be a tough sell. If he can see into the near future he could probably see that Charlie and Claire would not beleive him.
I think they will listen next time.

First post here. I have been reading this forum for awhile now, and you guys have some amazing thoughts about the show!

I keep thinking about Desmond and his new ability. It seems to me that when the "implosion" occurred in the hatch by all rights Desmond should have been sucked into the hole. However, it could be possible that the extreme electro magnetic force that was occurring caused a rift in time space. Desmond was shifted forward in time, how far we don't know. Then, either the rift corrected itself pulling him back (naked) and on top of the imploded hatch. Or, he was able to travel far enough into the future that he could find a way to travel back to where he came from.

I think the experiment he conducted tonight was to see if he could change the past/future. He knew about the lightening, and wanted to spare claire from it so he tried to convince her to move. When that didn't work he created a lightening rod to attract the lightening away from her. So now, he knows he can change things. That is my theory on Desmond this week, who knows it may be entirely different next week.

I think he created the rod to prove to himself that he can in fact know where it will strike. the roof thiung was because they where getting a little wet....charlie, wants to be a man so bad.

yeah i think the roof was more becuase it was going to rain... i know that babies are the lightning rods of the 21st century, but dont you think Desmond would have been a little more concerned for them if he knew the lightning would strike them...

I dont think the make shift roof of organic materials would have stopped a lightning bolt anyways...

I'm not ready to accept the time-shift theory for Desmond. I think it may be that he had clairvoyant powers before but his confinement to the hatch prevented his use of them. Now that he's out, the "healing force" may be allowing them to work so he simply knows things that have not yet occurred.

That may be possible, but that doesnt explain why Locke, might also have those powers... I think eko will wake up from a twisted dream/vision and help locke get our boys back...

time shift highly unlikely...

its probably more like a feeling than clarvoyance and seeing into the future...

I think they used some of the tin from the plane on the roof, but I could be wrong. Also, even if the lightning struck a tree near them, and it fell on top of the shelter it could have collapsed (or caught on fire). Who knows how steady her thing is. I don't think he could have really cared whether or not they got wet. It rains all of the time on the island.

Desmond's offer to fix their roof was coupled with the suggestion that they move further down the beach while he "worked" on it. It was to get Claire to move, not about them getting wet.

I agree 100%. The roof was a non issue that Desmond was using to try to get Claire to move from that spot. He told her it would be well worth the trouble. When the roof plan didn't work he had to go to an alternate plan.... building a lightening rod close to the place he knew the lightning would be stiking to draw it away. I think he was still unsure whether or not he could change events that had not happened yet.
