Fertility doctor

Juliet stated to Jack that she was a fertility doctor. It's beginning to look like the theories about the Others being sterile could prove true.

Ben was born and reaised on the Island. What about the rest of the others? I doubt if Juliette went to school via the internet. Would she sign up for this insanity?

I wonder if Juliette was born on the island or if she was brought (crashed) there.

I thought it was interesting that Juliet is a fertility doctor, and yet there are no children are to be found amongst the others. Also, how completely inept the others appear to be when it comes to medical science. Maybe with the genetic engineering, and life extending experiments they were conducting they began to believe that medical science was obsolete. Now, they desperately need it.
Did Ben say he was born on the island, or did he simply say....I've been here all my life? hmmmmm

Your post got me thinking. After seeing the Dharma films and scientific equipment the last two seasons, we (the audience) have more or less assumed that the Others were scientists conducting experiments.

But what if they weren't? What if they were simply assistants, aids or the maintenance crew for the scientists. What if something happened on the island and the "important" people were able to escape, leaving the Others behind. Perhaps whatever happened to/on the island has affected them some way and now they are not being allowed to leave (hence the plane that drops off food in season 2).

Sure, they would be more savy to the island's history than the Losties, but they don't fully comprehend all the experimentation themselves; not like a scientist would.

Of course I'm still working on my first cup of coffee so maybe I'm not making much sense.

The others are the experimented, they are monkey's and other animals turned to humans.......kidding...

Juliet is a fertility doctor for ANIMALS... hence her being clueless when trying to help Jack operate.

Henry Gale was brought to the island as a baby becuase of his funked up spine. The island keeps him ( and the others, who probably all have some ailment) alive. I always thought Ethan looked like he had down syndrome or something.

I would be sterile too if all i had to do was join the book club on that island or keep the hottest women on the island in a cage!

I like how their heart jumping maching was BROKEN. Jack looked so mad. He was doing a whole lot better in his jungle hospital.

well guys i like all therioes , what if the people who started off on the island working for darma had children , hence ben and most of them died, from experiments etc.. so ben and the others left are against darma , and want jack and the rest of the survivors 2 help them . but are still pretending 2 work 4 darma?

I agree with the other poster that they are probably the test subjects that Dharma was trying to heal with life extension, gene therapy, etc. It may be that Benjamin's cancer is being held in check by the Island, and that he is not necessarily going to die anytime soon. He seemed awfully healthy beating up Sawyer and then going on a nature hike with him...
