The others have (apparently) contact with the outside world, including a supply line for food and provisions. One would think that they wouldn't have outdated computers and broken science/medical equipment.

I believe the others come from a future society that has abandoned all medical science. They have access to tools and supplies that are in their world in the future, but not to medical knowledge or equipment. My theory is that they eradicated the need for medicine by their genetically engineering seemingly perfect people who never got sick or aged. The island is just the doorway that they must use to travel back and forth due to the electro magnetic anomaly that occurred opening that door.

So you're saying they brought the building materials and the oven and kitchen sets in thier village from the future. Doesnt make sense. lots of the things they have look vintage or late 80's even... but more importantly, they are by no means super advanced in terms of thier way of being, like you would expect from a utopian pristine person from the future. If anything i think they could be more like the new austrailia for freaks... left there long ago

One other good thing to think about is that they would probably have killed Jack first thing. much like scientologists to a therapist, they would probably think that of Jack. His "Old way of thinking" doctor skills would be of no use to them, perhaps even offensive to them...

The one thing that i think could turn the scales in your favor is the second island. Maybe they are the same island but one is ahead of the other in TIME. nd thats why you can't see it from the original island... dun dun duuuuuuh!

I believe that the supplies they are using on the island are for the most part all the leftovers from the original dharma participants. The original inhabitants abandoned, or were removed from their quarters years ago, and all of the abandoned technology is from the 70's....
I believe the future "eutopian" society that grew from the research on the island has encountered a problem in the future. They must go back and correct their mistakes, or they might perish. They need medical knowledge desperately now, they eliminated it many years ago because it was no longer needed. (pefect bio engineered humans do not get sick) I am not suggesting that the survivors are trapped in a time warp etc. I am suggesting that the island has a portal that the others from the future are using. Perhaps they cannot bring inanimate objects (including clothes) But, they can communicate to a degree and arrange for food drops from an outside source. If you can manipulate time travel you can manipulate people and events to your benefit. I am thinking that the second island is either a ruse/mirage or that both islands are in the same general area of the magnetic field and would share the healing benefits.

Reference the woman that was shot and died--Seemed like fairly lame attempt to save her by having a fertility doctor operate when Jack was available. Also, Ben came out and beat up on Jack during surgery. Regardless, Juliet/Elizabeth Montgomery is hot.
