Boone Carlyle

Boone Carlyle was a middle section survivor of Oceanic Flight 815 and was Shannon's stepbrother. He attempted to assume a semi-leadership role with the survivors but failed due to being rash and young, though he became Locke's apprentice when the two formed a close bond. Boone survived on the Island for 41 days before he died of injuries sustained in a fall whilst he tried to contact 'rescuers' from the drug smugglers' plane. According to Locke, Boone was a sacrifice the Island demanded.

Default Fur Issues

So. The polar bear fur? Didn't look like polar bear fur to me, and I've been around polar bear hides quite often. It's not that fluffy.

We could just be logical and say something along the lines of 'Where are they going to get real polar bear fur? It's just a prop.'

Or we could have fun with it.

My kinda-sorta-theory:
The Hydra station is used for animals, right? But for exactly what purpose? Could it be to see if they could make hybrid animals? If so, maybe they breeded (either artificially or naturally) a polar bear with another bear (grizzly, perhaps) to get some sort of hybrid.

The PB/Griz hybrid is actually possible; I've seen it on National Geographic.

Maybe that's why the fur consistancy was different.

Also, when we got a look at the polar bear, it didn't look... right to me. Maybe that's just because the visual effects aren't quite up to par with the Star Wars animations, but still... could there be more to it?

Maybe the polar bear looked strange because it was some sort of hybrid. That would explain it a bit.

Like I said, the fur and the not-so-hot CGI bear may not mean anything, but it is always fun to wonder, hmm?

A hybrid bear is very plausible, I also think DHARMA messed around with some of the animals genetics. But I did not even think about the fur, thanks for pointing that out.

If you guys were to read my post in another spot about this, you would know what I already know, which confirmed what you are saying, only a few months ago.

DHARMA applied gene therapy to the beasties and turned them into the aggressive predators they are today.

I wonder what they do to people...

If you could cross a Polar Bear with a Sheep, just think of the amount of Wool you could get! You could combine the words for fur and wool and get a "Fool Sweater" for Christmas.

LOL! I bet that's what Dharma is after.

They're gonna breed polar bears with sheep to get the ultimate yarn. Then they'll make billions of sweaters, scarves, hats, and gloves. But they won't be ordinary sweaters, scarves, hats, and gloves, oh no. For one, they'll all have a Dharma logo on it. And two, Dharma weaved a special fiber into all of the yarn so that whenever you wear a bit of Dharma clothing it starts to send these signals to your brain. It's how Dharma is gonna brainwash the world.

That is their true plan! And I've finally unconvered it! Muahahahahaaa!

...

Or not...

Mmm exploiting animals and making big bucks, all the while brainwashing. Those are ideas I like.

Well, i don't know about gene therapy applied to animanls to make them more aggressive. Polar bears are easily the most agressive bear species out there (at least according to all of the animal shows i've ever watched). The only thing out of place to me with the polar bear is the fact that it is a polar bear in a freakin tropical climate. lol

I guess its possible that the bear is some sort of hybrid. Don't think it really is cause i don't see how that would add to the story line of the show...but you never know i guess. I just narrow it down to the prop guys...

I say that the bear is on the island 'cause Dharma is seeing if their new hybrid will be able to adapt to the new climate. Poor polar bears IRL aren't adapting very well... as of this summer they are now an endangered species.

Maybe that's why Dharma has taken the ever-loved trio. They're gonna mutate them. They'll become the Island X-Men! Yay! Sawyer will have the power to use his profound vocabulary to sucessfully manipulate the minds of others around him (kinda like Hitler), Kate will have super speed, and Jack will be able to fix any boo-boo with his brain! Yup. Another LOST mystery solved by yours truly.

But I think the problem is mostly just props, but I love speculating about these things. Let's you see both sides of an issue. And it can lead to some very interesting conversations... lol.

Yeah Polar Bear mutation always makes for a stellar conversation. Always.
