I don't think Ethan was a "real doctor" in the sense that he went to medical school. I believe he was educated on the Island, just like the rest of Othertown. If you believe Ben Linus spent his whole life there, then so too did at least a part of their community. Mind you, I do think the jury is still out on all that! Ben is a lying sack of s***, and thrives on messing with fragile Lostie minds.

Yeah! Jack's supposed to save(or try to save) the life of an other, but don't think that is why the others want him!! Cant be! it had'nt happend yet!! getting mixt-up here!! I jus wanna repeat the line by Sawyer!! "& when that happens,...I'll be there to put them in their place!!"

Unless...(cue ominous music)...Ben can see into the future like Desmond and knew they would need Jack to be there to save Colleen. This might explain why he was captured alone by the Losties...just like Locke in the last episode he is led around the Island by unusual visions, "things he needs to do", even if he doesn't necessarily know why.

and i Must say Sayid knows nothing about suprise ambushes... Besides... being stuck in a tree doesnt do much for you in erns of cover for bullet fire or i dunno... maybe retreating efficiently or attacking efficiently....

But if Ben can see into the future why didn't they just get Jack to start the surgery on Colleen in the first place - instead of letting a fertility doctor stumble around 'til it was too late. And why didn't they fix those shock paddles if he could see ahead. They obviously have terrific xray machinery and development skills. Who was looking at the xrays on the light board? Juliette was in with Jack, so there must be another doctor? somewhere? And technically didn't Ben get caught by Danielle's trap (did he wonder where the dolly came from and pick it up to set off the net trap?)

Exactly!!! Have a super thick file on Jack's entire life (research ability with the outside world somehow) know all about him, but didn't know Desmond had a boat? What's the deal?
