Benjamin "Ben" Linus
Benjamin "Ben" Linus is the leader of the Others on the Island. Ben arrived on the Island as a child, brought by his father Roger to work for the DHARMA Initiative. Ben takes orders from Jacob, and is the only person who visits and speaks with him. Ben's apparent goal is to keep the Island and its special properties secret from the outside world, and he goes to great lengths to achieve this.

The Others camp in a crater?
I was reading the synopsis (sp?) on Wikipedia on "A Tale of Two Cities", and this quote got me thinking..
Quote:
|
The camera zooms out revealing this is small village of houses on the island located in the middle of a large crater.
|
Did anyone else notice that they were in a crater? Would it be a volcanic carter, or a crater caused by a comet/asteroid? Hmmm, gonna have to check my tape tonight!

I imagine there are all sorts of things that the others have that deter people from finding them... and who knows what those things are.

It could very well be a volcanic crater, but the topography (i.e. alt.) also suggests an impact crater. If the island has a mysterious and powerful electro-magnetic field (EMF), would an asteroid be more likely to land there? It is possible that an interstellar comet bearing unique metals, (or even alien intelligence) may have caused the strange properties of the island. Impact crater; Pretoria, S. Africa:
