MY IDEAL RESOLUTION TO THE KATE DILEMMA:
I would have much rather that the cliffhanger be resolved by Kate stealing Joanna's (the woman who drowned on Day 6) identity and starting over. She had Joanna's passport, remember? That would be more in keeping with a Lost-style twist. It would have also been a nice reward for the die-hard Lost fans who have been watching closely since Season 1, who are obsessive and remember teeny details like that. You know, nerds like me.
And it would have given some cosmic meaning to the fact that the day of the drowning Jack chose to save Boone and not Joanna. His saving Boone instead would have meant saving Kate later--now THAT'S LOSTIFICATION! Who knows? Maybe Desmond could be shown forseeing it, wherever he is. The "Kate gets off scott free" resolution in "Eggtown" was almost as bad as a "and then I woke up and it was all a dream!" b.s. way to wrap things up in the kind of shows I expect a lot less from than Lost.
My "Joanna resolution" would have been a much more "literary" plot line and the irony would have been really in keeping with the style of Cuse and Lindelof's storytelling-->she has to begin a new life with a fake name in order to be her real self/the new and improved motherly Kate who is ready to be less emotionally guarded but who has to lie about her name...and her baby's name. Yeah, that wudda been good.
