Jack didn't mean for the woman and her kid to crash though so you can't hold that against him. I'm sure if he had a psychic thats so raven vision of what was going to happen he wouldn't have been up there on the bridge. And along those same lines, if given the choice I'm sure he'd prefer to fly and crash alone and not take all those other passengers with him. That statement to Kate was just showing how horribly desperate he is to get back to the island. I can't stand the way his character has become so one track minded. He won't listen to anyone else, he is being a terrible leader. But he isn't evil and he isn't a killer IMO. Locke (in Jack's eyes) had just murdered an innocent woman and shot at him. Jack must've decided it was justifiable. Locke looked so emotionally hurt when Jack pulled the trigger.
