I wonder if that was his burial outfit? Maybe that's the only shoes he brought with him to Australia, since he was on vacation..... Also in the Nikki and Paolo episode, Nikkie throws paolo's shoe when she was searching him for the diamonds after she drugged him (via the spider bite) and it ends up in the tree.
