The creators of LOsT have confirmed that parallel universes and alternate futures are NOT a part of the show. There is only one Jack, one Kate, one Christian, one Charlie and so on. When someone dies thats it they are dead.
So the "Jack" that we saw in the flashback where he indentifies his father Christian at the Austrialian morgue is the same "Jack" that we see in the flash forward of the season finale and the same "Jack" we have seen on the island.
So Christian Shepard is dead.

How can you close your mind off to that possibility? The producers themselves on a lost special "lost: the answers" say that quote "they (losties) are actually alive and breathing somewhere in the space time continuum" a statement that has eveything to do with parallel dimensions.
