I don't agree about Walt. He was very well off before the crash - Nanny,
private school etc. But I don't think his mother and Brian were very affectionate -
(we know Brian wasn't and his mom was too busy with her career). Also they
moved around a lot - to a totally different country each time so he probably didn't
have many friends.
But he loves the island -so much so he burned the raft to keep his dad
from leaving. He has friends he can see all the time and if I know 10 year old
hearts - he is probably not too upset there is no school.
Of course spending Christmas with The Others probably will dampen
his spirit a bit.

p.s. She was not Michael's wife - He was not good enough for her to marry.
