Kate Austen

Kate Austen is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Kate is a fugitive, and was being pursued by Marshal Mars prior to the flight, for blowing up her father. Kate had been captured in Australia and was being escorted back to the United States before the crash. Kate has always seemed to run away from her past. Even on the Island, Kate exhibits a kind of evasive behavior to escape from her problems. Kate, when on the run, always had good intentions and never did any outright harm or killings to anybody, she believed she was doing things for the greater benefit of others. This view is prominently connected with her actions of her father's murder - she believed she was relieving her mother from his abusive presence. Kate is strong-willed, useful and clever, but dislikes being alone and is usually level-headed.

She has escaped from the captivity of the Others with Sawyer, and has formed an ambiguous romantic relationship with him, despite still being unsure about her feelings for Jack.

Default Invisible Map

We know that when the black light was turned on there was an invisible map. We also know that Kelvin was painting the map on the hatch with his old partner before he blew his brains all over the ceiling. now, how did they know what they were painting? Did they go out and tour the island, or did they get the map from another source????

Some more questions that need to be answered.

id like to know why they decided to draw the map in the first place. it doesnt seem like they would be told to do that.

i think that they did tour the island.
they knew about the "hostiles" and Kelvin had found Desmond's boat, so he had obviously been wandering about for a bit.

I wonder when they figured out that it wasn't actually (well, this is debatable) harmful to go outside without the suit on?

Maybe they weren't told to do it. Maybe out of sheer boredom. Or maybe
they were doing it secretly.

Yeah I questioned this in another thread, i'd like to know why they were making the map!

But with the hatch pretty much destroyed, will we ever see the map again?

How do we know the hatch is destroyed? All we saw was a metal door come falling down at the beach, presumably blown there by whatever Desmond triggered when he turned the key. But we never saw the result of the "event" on the hatch.

well i think i would have figured it out when kelvin went out and desmond followed him you could hear all the birds tweeting.....now i'm no genius but if humans could,nt survive without an oxygen tank strapped to your back i dont think the birds could........unless they were flying round with oxygen tanks strapped to them as well lol

Well we don't know, but if not destroyed, its damaged, after the explosion by the dynamite and the electromagnetic fields effect on all things metal in the hatch, it's possible it damaged the blast door with the map on it?

if they were scouting the island in secret, and then drawing a map of what they found, wouldn't who ever was manning the Pearl Station, know about it from there observations and put a stop to it.

the pearl was the test, not the swan.

notice all the untouched journals that were out in the open.
