Michael Dawson
Michael Dawson is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. He had parental issues with his son, Walt, but the two have bonded with their time on the island. Michael shot dead Ana-Lucia and Libby in order to release Ben from captivity; and ultimately caused the capture of Jack, Sawyer and Kate, when he made a deal with the Others. His whereabouts are currently unknown after he left the Island with his son Walt on a motor boat.

And, I think, abandoned after Kelvin's partner shotgunned himself.
I would assume the two people in the Pearl Hatch frantically wrote down the information and shot it out to their "superiors" only to have nothing happen.
That probably let the 'cat out of the bag,' so to speak. And they left their hatch...to join the "hostiles," perhaps?

Map/Inman & Desmond/Pallet

I'd also like to know why Inman drew the map. Obviously, he had toured the island so he knew what he was drawing; but why leave a record of it if he was planning on ditching Desmond? Why would the map be useful to Desmond when, once alone in the Pearl, he would have only 108 minutes or less to use the map to tour the island?
Did Inman think eventually the Dharma Initiative WOULD send a replacement for him? Does this mean that the Dharma Initiative is still involved with the goings on of the island? While we're on that subject, why was the pallet of food dropped so far from the Pearl? It was close to the Losties beach camp, which I always thought was a 2-hour walk from the Pearl. Am I wrong?

No, You are right. I agree with your argument. I believe that Inman did think he was going to be replaced. I think after he found out that desmond was not the 'replacement' he must have come up with some plan, so he drew the map to show the so called 'new replacement' all the locations of the stations.
