Johnathan "John" Locke
Johnathan "John" Locke is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. His paralysis was immediately healed upon crashing on the Island, which has ultimately led him to believe he has some sort of special connection to the Island. He is sometimes shown in antithesis to Benjamin Linus, sharing several traits including the ability to commune with Jacob. Seen as antithetical to Jack Shephard, he and Jack are philosophical opposites and used to share leadership among the survivors, but now seems to be creating his own agenda for his actions on the Island and has broken off from the survivors.

Ooh! Another thought!
Did anyone notice that the glass in the framework and the framework itself around the computers was really really clean and polished in the flashbacks with Kelvin and Desmond?
I bet Kelvin was a kind of 'spit-and-polish' Army Intelligence guy who spent his time cleaning things until he got his hands on Demond's sailboat. The disrepair we all talked about at the beginning of the season is, simply, that Desmond quit taking care of the place after he killed Kelvin.

I think to get a good overview you would really need to watch both seasons back to back in one go (several times).
My take on the whole hatch incident is that the magnetic system was creating some sort of field around the whole island, which bends the light around it (hence why when saywer and micheal were out to sea, they all of a sudden seen the island and they passed though the field, you would have noticed it a lot sooner) and other electromagnetic fields. To do this there might have to be a storage system, which is what the timer was for, to bleed off the extra before it causes problems. I think the key that desmond used was a way to empty all the stored energy in one go as a fail safe. This would be useful incase the system failed (like a computer problem) as it would give darhma time to come to the island, repair the system and sort any problems out before the energy store is filled up.
The energy would probably have to be disipated though the atmosphere, hence the noise, light and movement of the hatch door. It would also disorintate people close by (charlie) and most likly knock very close by people out due to over sensory stimulation. I dought there was any sort of explosion as there would have been sign's, like smoke, debris (not just the hatch door which had already been removed) etc etc.
Of course this is just speculation so don't quote me on it :P

Ok remeber the key that desmond turned, that blew up the hatch so they dont press the button anymore and the electro magnetic field wouldnt be there anymore that sent the hatch door flying up in the air and it landed. At first i thought it was like a truman show thing too and i was like so mad

Not necessarily. I think the machine focussed and tried to harness the electromagnetic field of the island. If the Fail Safe Device fried just the machine, the magnetic field would remain, only now it would not be contained and focussed through the machine. It would still be there, pulling things like The Black Rock (the old slave ship) to their doom (I like that word, doom).
The old Bermuda Triangle theme. Still a workable concept.

That, too. Although I meant that 'Life Ain't Fair' in the way that life can be cruel. As in the poetic phrase, Nature is red in tooth and claw. Or as Mick and the Stones said, "You cain't always get what you want."
