Kate Austen

Kate Austen is one of the middle section survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Kate is a fugitive, and was being pursued by Marshal Mars prior to the flight, for blowing up her father. Kate had been captured in Australia and was being escorted back to the United States before the crash. Kate has always seemed to run away from her past. Even on the Island, Kate exhibits a kind of evasive behavior to escape from her problems. Kate, when on the run, always had good intentions and never did any outright harm or killings to anybody, she believed she was doing things for the greater benefit of others. This view is prominently connected with her actions of her father's murder - she believed she was relieving her mother from his abusive presence. Kate is strong-willed, useful and clever, but dislikes being alone and is usually level-headed.

She has escaped from the captivity of the Others with Sawyer, and has formed an ambiguous romantic relationship with him, despite still being unsure about her feelings for Jack.

It's OK, I'm still new at some things, too.

Unless the Others are not Dharma People, "they" should know that the losties are there. If not, and by this I mean that they don't have any means of knowing what's happening on the island, why are "they" (Dharma, the Hanso Foundation, whomever) still dropping food. After all, they forgot to send the replacements for Desmond's friend and the other Swan staffer who died.

Keep in mind though, we know more than poor Bernard... (at least thats what we're supposed to think) He likely assumes if Dharma is dropping food, they might notice the SOS sign and send help. He has no reason to think the Others are with Dharma, or that Dharma might want them there, nor does he know anything about Dharma except that it's the logo on the food and Arrow Hatch. (He hasn't been to the Swan, if recollection serves.)

Good point.

And I recall from the first season that Ethan sort of gave himself away in the episode with the golf course. Somebody made a comment about polar bears (I think it was Michael) and Ethan said, "Polar bears?" and Charlie replied, "Oh, hasn't anone told you about the polar bear?"

Hehe, yeah I remember that. It got me wondering if the minor characters were really just always being left in the dark about things, or if it was Ethan slipping up.
Hey, if he worked for Dharma, don't you suppose he would have known about the polar bears? Or maybe not, if it wasn't his area of research...

Default Been There, Seen That (S.O.S.)

Isn't it possible that Ethan was playing dumb? When I rewatched the early episodes a few weeks back it was somewhat more obvious how he was playing along. What a jerk!

Anyway, just watched the episode and...

Spoiler for Option:
It turns out Rose was dying of cancer when Bernard took her to Australia, and since their arrival on the Island, she thinks she is cured! Oh, and if that wasn't interesting, Bernard tried to make the SOS out of black rocks against the sand on the beach. He does think that outside aircraft are flying over, and hasn't made the connection with Dharma/The Others yet.

Ha! I finally got to break some news on a Lost board! Thank you satellite!

Hey! Do I get any brownie points for being right about Bernard? (And about the link between Rose, Locke and Jin?)

Well, it was your post that got me thinking about that going into the episode, so I would say you have some bragging rights.
