I personaly doubt it, but there is quite a bit of evidence that shows both ways.

FOR:
-Obviously the number reoccurence that Dave pointed out
-Hurley knows about most to all the major events (i.e.. Hatch, food) excluding the recent Henrey Gale events
-We didn't know anything about the other losties that survived in the tail end of the plane until after Hurley talked to the black women and her telling him that her husband was in the tail and he survived..
-Hurley could have built the Losties based on his run-ins with them
-Cant think of any more

AGAINST:
-Henry Gale, Hurley as we know it has no knowledge
-Run in with the others (numerous occasions)
-Deaths of fellow Losties (i.e.. Boone, his sister)
-monster on the isle and Ecko running in with it.

So my theory staes that there is no way this is Hurley's dream, because there is way too much that has happend in the coasrse of time and everthing is too tightly linked together for Hurley to just dream up.

Well I think that the biggest problem against your theory is that the writers have already promised us that it will not be one of the losties dreams.

i agree - in simpler terms - he feels guilty about hoarding all the food and
eating it and this has resurrected Dave.

What about Libby in the same hospital as Hurley...does this add more credence to the dream theory?

Never heard that (aint as big as a fanatic as some of you guys seem to be, only seen about 7 episodes doh!). But to respond to geo81:

I came to figure that Dave always appears whenever Hurley is tempted to food, or is around it nevertheless. Dave is just a part of Hurley's subconcience to keep Hurley where his is happy. Hurley always seems to be in a positive mood when he is eating, and his body reconizes this and uses this as leverage to keep Hurley happy. His mind creates a friend or of someone Hurley wants to be (kind of like in fight club) inorder to keep peace. Dave shows up when Hurley is depressed but it near food, in an attempt to save Hurley. And when Hurley's mind realises that Hurley is giving up to the temptation, a desperate act to save the mind (somehow) is to kill Hurley.

I think having Libby in the picture added some stress to him, as well. He probably started wanting to change more than ever.

No this is not Hurley's dream. There are to many things that Hurley had no part of, that are major parts of the story line. There are to many to name them all but, A few examples are Clarie's experiance while she was held by Dharma, Sayid's time with Danelle, the whole raft Dharma incounter. And all the fashbacks that don't involve him.
Hurley said it many times he is scared of change. He feels change is bad. He also feels like he causes bad things to happen. He Won the lottery and veiwed it as bad. He's buddy Dave was triggered by, an attempt to make changs for the better. that where instantly fouled up buy the food drop, as well as the fact that somewhere deep in the back of his mind he knows where he has seen Libby before and, that is a link to a time when Dave was part of his life.
I wonder if the was still on his meds when he took his trip on flight 815?
