I'm toying with the idea that the "He" that Mr. Friendly and the other Others report to is Henry Gale.

He appears to be a master manipulator / psychologist.

Maybe he controls a faction, the remnants of a long term and mostly failed Utopian experimental society. His method of control? Fear of the virus, and control of the vaccine supply.

But there are some cracks. Ethan shows a few signs of independence, taking Claire out for a walk, and expressing his wish that she could stay with them. I think Ethan was pushing his bounds by telling Claire as much as he did. Alex obviously undermined the plans of the Others, but still stays with them - they must have some way of keeping her around.

And one more observation. If Henry is an Other, why is he not too concerned with being locked up in the Hatch with no access to the vaccine? Perhaps he knows the sickness is bogus, or is only contracted on purpose (i.e. by an injection), or he personally is immune for other reasons.

... rough thoughts ...

I also thought maybe Ethan was falling for Claire...the way he handled her stomach, seemed very father-like. He put his hand on her knee and looked so happy having her on his arm. His weakness was Claire. He wanted her so badly, he got too close to the camp and paid for it with his life.

Has anybody notice the difference in the shape of the facility from the way Claire remembers it and the way it looks when the Claire, Kate, and Rouseau find it?

I think the airplane mobile in the nursery was a hint that Claire's subconscious was trying to tell her that things were as real as she thought they were. Remember, that airplane mobile was from one of Claire's nightmares.

The room is painted bright blue, but when they (Kate, Claire, and Rouseau) the paint is a drab grey.

The bright white corridor now has broken lights and water and dirt on the floor.

The surgury room is a mess. Claire's glance at it when she is being warned by Alex(?) shows a bright, well-equiped suite with a lot of chrome.
