Eko's trees

You know the trees that Eko was marking when Charlie went to talk to Eko? He said something along the lines of "these are the trees that I like".

Is there a deeper meaning to that? That went way over my head, how about yours?

Actually most of the episode went way over my head. Just what the hell happened tonight on Lost? I am almost hoping that tonights episode WAS someone's dream. Not only was it strange but pretty boring!

Anyway, my theory on the trees is that Eko may sense imminent danger from the "others" and either these trees will be used in some sort of defense or........heck, I dunno. Maybe he just has a big green thumb!

Sometimes I think Eko is a complete phsycho! That little smirk he gets when he has an interesting conversation with someone creeps me out.

Though he is one of my favorite characters on the show.

Maybe he's going to build something with them... or something around them? Maybe he's going to build a church there???

Maybe he was, now the church has burned down. My first thought while watching that scene is that he wanted to make tree catapults. Though in no way shape or form do I think that is correct.

EKo's tree thing was weird, as were his ideas on baptism...but that's a whole other thread. I didn't realize Charlie had burned his trees, how sad.

"Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire" (Matthew 7:17-19)

But a Drug addictteth can bringeth a inferno on toppeth the tree.

Eko might have been thinking about that while selecting his "favorite" trees.

Here's the Bible passage (from Luke) about baptism by water and fire. Beside the fact that there was a baptism and a fire in this episode, I'm having trouble drawing a connection between the passage and the episode. Maybe there isn't one, or maybe I'm just sleepy.

15The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John might possibly be the Christ. 16John answered them all, "I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. 17His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

tsimer, you must not be Catholic. I'm not, either, but Eko is, and I know that the Catholic church's ideas about baptism are far different from Protestants.
