The Hairy Guy and The Others

So here's my big question about this episode:

Why didn't Locke and Jack and Sawyer try TALKING to the big hairy guy? If I was stuck on that island , and I finally had contact with the people who claimed that it's their island, their food, their computer, I think I'd be asking questions like crazy! Like:

Where are we?
Where did you come from?
What's with the computer? The numbers?
How do we get home???

I understand he's big and scary and everything, but if it were me, I think I'd at least try to get along with him. They might even get some answers about how to get home.

Yeah, sometimes when you finally meet someone you are looking for you are dumbfounded and you cannot seem to find the right words.

I kept on saying outloud "Ask him about the numbers Jack". It was a pity that they built that big fire and did not really talk that much, they should have given him there guns and then started asking good questions like "How long did it take you to grow that beard?".....Yes I'm in idiot

hmm well yeah, i guess that would make things alot easier eh?

I noticed when he asked to bring kate out he said, "Bring her out ALEX"

I agree with JT, they were just so dumbfounded - I couldn't understand why
Bluebeard's big speech about Jack et al sticking their nose in business they shouldn't somebody didn't say " Hey, we don't want to be here - show us how to get home and we'll leave."
It would have been great if Jack HAD caught him off guard with a ridiculous
question like the beard.
Remember when Rousseau was about to blow Hurley's head off and he started ranting about the pissed off giraffe and "Now, I want some friggin'
answers", she was so surprised she lowered her weapon.
That was classic!
They should let Hurley be their negotiator.

Or Charlie can come and ask "Guy's, Where are we?"

The pissed off Giraffe bit is one of my favorite lines from Hurley.
