No Smokey?

So I was just watching this episode again and I was wondering how come for 48 days the other losties did not hear one thing from Smokey? I mean our losties heard it the first night in the jungle. No signs of it all though for ana lucia and ecko which i find really odd. Is this "security system" only meant for certain areas of the island? i just thought it was weird i dk.

I think it has to do with many factors including how many people are in an area, is that area marked as a heightened security zone, and are there enough relays in the area for Smokey to extend that far...and probably some additional criteria we aren't aware of yet.

I say relays, because if you've seen the Blast Door Map, it notes areas of "heightened Cerberus (aka Smokey) activity" and areas with "high number of Dharmatel relays". I think all of this relates, as the monster clearly has some limitations.

The map also indicates that Smokey spends most of its time in the so-called Dark Territory where the Black Rock was found.

True but don't you think they maybe would have heard it or see the trees move or anything?

Well we know they were hearing the wispers.. If nothing else when they were walking through the jungle to the other camp when Cindy the flight attendant disappeared.. Then when Ana Lucia shot shannon.. It was also said that they heard things in the jungle but they were the only ones that the others were taking too!

Smokey was just in "one of us".
