Locke is totally setting the others up for a "hostile" takeover! Remember back to when John and Kate first when down the Swan hatch and met Desmond. It appeared that John was giving Kate up, but really he was protecting her and even secretly gave her a knife to cut her bonds. Locke knew that they were watching him when he went into the game room to speak to Kate... it's the same deal as in the Swan hatch. Watch how intense John's eyes are when he's speaking to Kate in the game room- he's telling her he's okay and not on the Others' side. John doesn't care what Kate's done in the past (the whole " then they told me who you were and what you'd done" thing). Locke has said repeatedly, to numerous people that you get a new life on the island.
