I don't think Juliet was gassed. She was either left at the barracks, probably not forcefully just 'Sorry, you are not coming with us' and then she followed their trail through the jungle and found Kate, handcuffed herself and pretended to sleep. OR Walked through the jungle with the rest of the Others and then was told she wasn't coming any further but why in the middle of the jungle? So maybe she had some sort of disagreement with Ben halfway through the jungle so she and Kate were left there. OR She is part of another of Ben's crazy Goonie adventures and is supposed to be infiltrating/spying on our Losties. I like to think that Ben had a plan to get Juliet to spy for him, and in his usual style made it seem like it was her idea. Halfway through the jungle she learns that they are going to throw Kate into a volcano or something so she talks Ben out of it, he leaves Kate with her but it's part of a grander scheme by Ben. Something like that. I think a lot of what the Others do is supposed to be random just so we and the Losties can't make heads or tails of it. Just like them wearing the old ratty clothes. I think Richard Alpert (with his gorgeous eyes) ruffed up Locke, he asked him when uncuffing him if he was going to do anything stupid, like 'Am I going to have to kick your butt again?' I am wondering about the way Juliet looked at smokey when the fence stopped it. It was an odd look. Not scared or relieved, but almost the look you give someone when they throw a water balloon at you and miss. Just a casual, 'ha ha you missed me' or maybe a 'everything is going according to plan, good job'....
