Even though the answering machine is a fairly new invention it actually goes back to something that was created way back in 1898.
However it wasn't until 1935 that we got the first automatic answering machine which was invented by Mr. Willy Muller. The first unmanned moon landing was in 1959, the first manned landing 1969.
The Earth's circumference was first determined around 240 BCE by Eratosthenes. Magellan circumnavigated the globe in the early 1500s.
