And just before he got clocked by the guy with the cricket bat, he was saying, "I was right! I
can change things!"
But, by then, it was too late.
He had already let himself be convinced to do the "wrong" thing (lose the love of his life). And he wasn't given enough time to go back and tell her it was a mistake. He gets hit with the bat, and his chance to change the way his life turned out is over--just as he realizes that he
could have changed things if he had only believed in himself (and his convictions).
