I think I'll throw in something from left field. Remember the diagram painted on the blast door of the Hatch? The one with the question mark in the center? If the Hatch was at the bottom of the map and North was up, then the station in the center, which was represented by a question mark, would be up to the north, in the mountains.

And remember Eko's vision where he was supposed to ask Locke to take him to the question mark? At the time, I thought that meant the central station on the Hatch diagram, but Locke assumed that Eko meant the Pearl Station (the one where Eko ended up getting killed).

Also, I took the roadmap to be a kind of foreshadowing device to remind the viewers that the Dharma Project appeared to have started out as a large, grand, enterprise. Here they are, maybe building monuments, roads, zoos on the other island, the housing project where the book club was meeting, but then something happened, the construction was stopped, the roads stopped being maintained, and everything was left to fall apart, rust, and decay. Perhaps that bit was put in there to get us wondering again about what happened to stop the Dharma Initiative.

And now, according to the preview, they're going to find the station with the computers and maybe communicate with the mainland. Maybe a third faction (with the guy with the eye patch) controls this communications station. Perhaps the Dharma Initiative degenerated into a bunch of warring factions after the "incident." A kind of mutiny, which left Hanso's group only controlling the Swan Station (Hatch), and air-dropping supplies to the Swan Station to keep it going.

You might also note the comments of the other losties about the supplies running low. That could also be a bit of foreshadowing.

Just something to think about (if you want to think about Lost in terms of a book or novel).

And, like Banquo's ghost, they just won't go away.
