Is Thomas Mittlework a character from the S.K. Book? Or is he from the Mittlelos? corp in Lost? The Dark Tower series has a similar sound to The Matrix with the doorways (and keys), Morpheus and Trinity helping Neo find his path (which would help all of humanity at the cost of a few {Spock's the good of the many outweigh the good of the one or the few}) and there is a kind of no death with the Architect talking about catastrophic endings and new versions of the matrix...
