I'm with Benmer in that I'm not sure it actually happened - I think it might be just what Desmond himself described - I have a concussion and the ring woman was his consciencness trying to wake him. If it was time travel the physicist was his best mate (desmond said) so it is likely that his girlfriend and his best mate would have certainly met, or at least known of each other. The physicist said that Des was really starting to scare him (with the soccer game talk) so maybe he would go and talk to Penny about Des' odd behavior? What do you think? Oh, one more thing.......... If Des' flashback had really happened why doesn't Des say, "Hey Charlie, remember when you were playing your guitar outside the bank and I came up to you and told you your name and talked about the hatch and computer...." Did Charlie ever say that Desmond looked familiar to him?
