It was okay...didn't suck, didn't really answer a lot either. I got the feeling that Desmond's whole "flashback" was kind of his way of dealing with what had happened to him. It was all in his head, but it gave him a sense of purpose to carry on. There's no doubt that he can see things in the future on the island, but I really think that all the easter eggs in the flashback were just him combining his past memories with what happened on the island up to that point.
