David Hume was a scottish philosopher born in 1711.


His major thoughts were that we can't take things for granted, basically. Even if we know that B comes after A, Hume argued, our belief that they exhibit any necessary connection (however explicable) can never be rationally justified, but must be acknowledged to rest only upon our acquired habits. He concluded that a severe skepticism is the only defensible view of the world.
