Another reason to only take the children as they can be molded much more easily into a belief system. Old Smokey could be another tool created to conform people to certain standards, being able to "see" into people's minds, determine their potential for "change". Ole Smokey didn't kill Mr. Eko at first because he seemed remorseful about his violent past. But as soon as he was able to shed his guilt, blam-o he is now a free thinker and a threat.
Yeah i dont like that smoke monster, he makes the island seem less realistic... i mean the whole thing is pretty far fetched, but if you think about it, all this could actually happen, but the smoke monster makes it seem fantasy now, and its a little dissipointing.

"Aim small miss small"

Me, well, I'm a man of faith. Do you really think all this...is an accident? That we, a group of strangers survived, many of us with just superficial injuries? Do you think we crashed on this place by coincidence, especially this place? We were brought here for a purpose, for a reason, all of us. Each one of us was brought here for a reason.
