No, no, no! I wasn't talking about a question mark in the ground. In Eko's dream, his brother told him to ask Locke about the question mark. That's obviously refering to the central hatch painted on the blast door. If you look to the right of the swan and up, you'll see that the Pearl is noted there--separated and distinct from the question mark.
I was putting forth the notion that neither one had "found" what their visions were telling them to search for. If Locke had found the Pearl with Boone, he would have seen Desmond working away, inside the Swan Hatch. It would have changed everything. Instead of seeing the Swan as the be-all, end-all of his quest, Locke might have started tracing the air-tube line and found the secret hiding place of the Others.
After seeing the big Question Mark in the center of the diagram, I figured that all the answers would probably be there. But both Eko and Locke now think that they've found the question mark, so they aren't looking for that central hatch.
Any comments on this idea? Or am I just blowing a lot of smoke out from between my ears from my over-heated brain?

"Whoa!" she said. "Cry 'Havoc!' And let loose the dogs of war!"
And, like Banquo's ghost, they just won't go away.
